We started this project as group of economics students from Tonbridge Grammar School. Last Febuary we were approached about setting up and running a website for local businesses to advertise for free, benefitting the companies and the local people. The aim is to let local people know about what is going on in Tonbridge and what services are available to them.
A year on and we have now expanded to the lower years and have many voluntary members throughout the school, who are working together to further improve the website. Our new aims are to include a greater number of businesses and to provide more community news and events, while continuing to strive to bring the community closer together.
Although we are advertising this website as a free service, we would greatly appreciate any donations to keep the website running. Thank You.
Tonbridge High Street Report
On Thursday 9th November, Tonbridge LocalBiz went to Tonbridge High Street, to find businesses to advertise on our website. We went into lots of shops, and the trip on the whole was very successful. The majority of people who we asked, seemed very interested, and we presented them with a form to fill out, if they wanted to be part of our project. Some businesses were very eager and filled it out straight away; most others kept a form for their managers to fill out, and post it back to us. Some businesses donated money! As we went round the different shops, we grew more confident talking to other people and more seemed interested in the website.
The range of shops varied, from newsagents to flower shops to hairdressers, but all seemed excited to possibly be part of our wonderful website. ‘Save the Children’ (a charity shop) seemed especially eager, but sadly, could not fill it out straight away, due to needing managers permission. This still didn’t stop us, as we gained a great many businesses to advertise on our website.
The Angel Walk flower shop (see above photo) was also very eager, and filled out their form immediately, even donating some money!
